Welcome to Spring in the Barossa
The Barossa is buzzing with new life as the first signs of spring arrive. Pruning is complete, and the vines are poised for another season of growth.
Out among the rows at Cellar Door, the team has also broken ground on our new nature trail, a project designed to welcome guests with a fresh perspective of our vineyards and landscape (plus see some of the highland cows!) when summer arrives.
Around the valley, the change of season is unmistakable, golden wattle, blossoming almond trees, and bright yellow canola fields paint the landscape in vivid colour. It’s a spectacular time of year to visit.
IN THE VINEYARD
Budburst marks the true beginning of the growing cycle. With pruning wrapped up across our sites, focus now shifts to nurturing new shoots and ensuring balanced growth for the months ahead.
The “M” shaped Double Guyot training first introduced in younger Holy Grail vines last year will again play an important role in shaping yields and airflow for healthy, even fruit set. As budburst starts, the growing canes will naturally follow the shape upward, encouraging shoots to grow exactly in the direction Pete and the team want. Depending on the vine, some have been pruned to two canes and others to three (pictured below three), a deliberate choice to control fruit levels and ensure each plant is carrying the right amount of fruit per vine that the team want.
AT CELLAR DOOR
At Cellar Door we have our newly released 2022 Single Vineyard Series. Each wine is bottled to express the unique personality of its vineyard, with the standout being the 2022 Yacca Block Shiraz, awarded an impressive 99 points for its intensity, balance and sense of place.
To explore the full range, book an Unearth Singlular Sites. Our team will guide you through each wine, offering insight into the vineyards, the winemaking, and what makes this series truly unique.

IN THE WINERY
Many of you know Jett, our Assistant Winemaker. This year, Jett has stepped into the 2025 Barossa Next Crop leadership program, a nine month journey designed to prepare the next generation of grape growers and winemakers. From succession planning to climate change adaptation, the program brings together people across the Barossa to share knowledge and build the skills needed for the challenges ahead. For Jett, it’s a chance to learn from peers, sharpen his perspective, and bring that thinking back to what we’re doing here at Two Hands.
Back at the winery, it’s business as usual. Richard, Jett and Harry are still in the thick of winery life, making sure the 2025 wines resting in barrel continue their evolution, along with blending and bottling some of our 2024 releases.
INTERNATIONAL GRENACHE DAY
19th SEPTEMBER
International Grenache Day is a chance to celebrate one of the Barossa Valley’s most historic and characterful varieties. First planted in the region in the 1800s, Grenache was traditionally used in fortified wines before its potential for fine, expressive reds was truly recognised. Today, Barossa Grenache particularly from old bush vines, is known for its lifted aromatics, bright fruit, and silky tannins, thriving in the region’s warm climate and sandy soils.
At Two Hands Wines, we proudly showcase the diversity and elegance of Grenache through a distinct range of wines. These include Brave Faces, a vibrant GMS blend; Yesterday’s Hero, a fresh and modern expression of McLaren Vale Grenache; Aerope, our Flagship Grenache sourced from some of the region’s oldest vines; and the Twelftree Schuller Grenache, a single-vineyard wine that highlights purity and site expression.
WINE OF THE MONTH
2025 Trusty Rusty Rosé
Barossa Valley Grenache
Spring wouldn’t feel complete without a chilled glass of rosé in hand, and our 2025 release of Trusty Rusty has arrived right on cue. This wine is built for adventure, for afternoons in the garden, and for lazy long lunches that drift into dinner.
The 2025 Trusty Rusty Rosé is all about freshness and energy, bright red berries, a gentle floral lift, and a crisp, dry finish that leaves you ready for another sip. Crafted with the same care and attention as our Shiraz, it’s a serious rosé that still knows how to have fun. Pair it with seafood, charcuterie, or simply sunshine and good company.
Luke is originally from Tassie and began his journey in the wine industry with Moorilla Estate in 1997. He lived and worked in Japan for about 3 years before coming back to Australia and moving to Barossa in 2005 with Rockford Wines, after completing Bachelor of Wine Marketing at University of Adelaide. He is the father of two daughters, he claims are much smarter than him and husband to a patient wife. He spend his weekends playing golf and listening to loud, heavy music. With his best memory, hanging out with Metallica and giving them some great Barossa wine, of course.
