HARRIET'S GARDEN

Adelaide Hills Shiraz

At Two Hands we source premium fruit from six of the finest Shiraz growing regions around Australia, from which we produce the Garden Series.

Harriet’s Garden is sourced from one of the coolest wine regions of South Australia, the Adelaide Hills.

The Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. The region consists of two registered sub-regions, Lenswood and Piccadilly Valley.

Adelaide Hills Shiraz defies the big, bold nature of warm climate Shiraz, and showcases a stylish, refreshing, elegant style. The aromatics lend themselves to attractive peppers and spice, whilst the palate’s fine tannins and acid structures deliver palate length and age-ability in the cellar.

Made since 2015, the fruit sourced to produce Harriet’s Garden is purchased from a vineyard next to Hope Forest. This is a site we harvest late and is usually one of the late parcels to arrive at our winery. The moderating effect of the southern ocean rolling into South Australia in conjunction with the site’s high elevation provides finer red fruit characteristics, allowing slower development of ripeness and tannin.

The wine is named after our owner Michael’s daughter, Harriet whose favourite colour is pink. Whilst also reflecting back to the amazing array of pinks and purples of Adelaide Hills sunsets.

The Region & Vineyard

SOIL | Silty loam with ironstone over orange-brown clay.

VINE AGE | 5-25 years

ELEVATION | 400m

AVERAGE RAINFALL | 850mm

SUB-REGION | Hope Forest

VINIFICATION | Fermentated in a five tonne open top fermenter, with regular pump overs (2 times daily). The average time ‘on skins’ is 10 days, the free run juice is then drained to a tank and the pressings combined. The wine was then racked to barrel, where malolactic fermentation took place. Harriet’s Garden is bottled unfined and unfiltered

MATURATION | Aged for 16 months in up to 25% new French oak. With the remainder in 1-4 year old French oak hogsheads

Scores & Reviews

"Harriet’s Garden Shiraz shows us an interesting combination of vintage and region. The Adelaide Hills region is already a cooler area than many of the vineyard areas that surround it in South Australia. The wine is lush and concentrated, not in the least minty, which I was expecting. Supple, lithe and opulent, this is a concentrated wine, which likely benefited from a long hang time, given the overall lack of viticultural pressure that season. It offers notes of blackberry, blueberry, licorice, raspberry, mulberry and tar. There’s a squid ink character to the tannins, almost slippery and glossy."
