CHARLIE'S GARDEN

Eden Valley Shiraz

At Two Hands we source premium fruit from six of the finest Shiraz growing regions around Australia, from which we produce the Garden Series.

Eden Valley is a wine region located within the Barossa zone in South Australia. It is situated northeast of the Barossa Valley and is known for its cool climate and diverse microclimates, making it ideal for growing a wide range of grape varieties. While often associated with the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley has its own unique characteristics and reputation as a premium wine-producing region. While Shiraz is a dominant grape in both Eden and Barossa Valley, the style of Shiraz from Eden Valley tends to be more elegant and refined, with red fruit characteristics and peppery notes. The region’s picturesque landscape features rolling hills and vineyards, creating a beautiful setting for wine enthusiasts to explore.

Eden Valley’s reputation for producing high-quality wines, especially Riesling and Shiraz, has garnered attention from wine lovers worldwide, and it remains a sought-after destination for wine tourism and appreciation of exceptional Australian wines.

“There’s a special valley of grapes and gums in the Barossa, world famous for the quality of its wines – and particularly its Riesling – and renowned for the stunning landscapes around every corner.”  – Barossa Australia

Made since 2015, with fruit sourced from one of the highest vineyards on top of Menglers Hill.  Charlie’s Garden is quintessentially Eden Valley Shiraz, with a soft bouquet of red fruits and fresh cut flowers with a moderately powerful fruit profile that finishes with an amazing minerality.

The landscape and gumtrees that surround this vineyard were a natural inspiration for the colour of this label.

The Region & Vineyard

SOIL | Quartz and gravelly loam over yellow clay and silty loam over a deep yellow clay.

VINE AGE | 11-82 years

ELEVATION | 500m

AVERAGE RAINFALL | 800mm

SUB-REGION | Mengler Hill

VINIFICATION | Fermented in a five tonne open top fermenter, with regular pump overs twice daily to control ferment, extract colour, flavour and tannins. Average time ‘on skins’ was 10 days before the free run juice was drained to tank and the pressings combined. The wine was then racked to barrel, where malolactic fermentation took place. Charlie’s Garden was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

MATURATION | Aged for 16 months in up to 25% in new French oak. With the remainder in 1-4 year old French oak puncheons & hogsheads.

Charlie's with Roast Chicken

Try pairing our Charlie’s Garden with garlic herb butter roast chicken, packed with unbelievable flavours and crispy skin. Perfect for that cool winters night or a weekend afternoon with friends.

Where most would automatically opt for a lighter bodied varietal to match with chicken such as Grenache or Pinot Noir. We at Two Hands find that roasted chicken takes on a deep, hearty flavour profile that is perfect match for a darker, richer wine.

Scores & Reviews

“Shiraz sourced from a vineyard on Mengler Hill that shows deep plum, boysenberry and black cherry fruits infused with baking spice, violet top notes, roasting meats, sage, olive tapenade, dark chocolate and vanillin oak. Full bodied and plushly fruited, tannins ultrafine and powdery and a chocolatey, bright finish with the emphasis on fruit purity and spice.”
- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion, - 94 points

“Classically Eden Valley, pulling together the threads of DNA that runs between these Garden Shiraz wines... It’s an elegant wine that manages thrust and dry power alongside nuance and detail.”
- Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, - 93 points
