Twelftree Wines is a limited and exclusive collection of premium handcrafted Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale wines mostly centred around single site varietal expressions, guided from vine to bottle by Two Hands proprietor Michael Twelftree.
Grenache has a long and storied history in South Australia, dating back to the 1840s when it was among the first grape varieties planted. While once a staple of the region's fortified wine industry, Grenache has recently experienced a revival, with winemakers focusing on single-vineyard Grenache and refined winemaking styles.
At Two Hands we have always been big fans of Grenache (It's first appearance being the 2001 Brave Faces GMS!). For years, MT has always been inspired by the gnarled, Grenache vines around SA and has crafted a selection of complex, expressive wines, crafted in tiny singular parcels. Twelftree Wines shelves the practice of interjecting winemaking, focusing more on the pre-eminence of unique vineyard sites and viticulture practices.

“Immensely complex and inviting, the bouquet shows dark berry, thyme, cured meat, and toasted almond characters on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate offering refined texture and finely infused tannins. It’s plush and expansive while remaining structured and robust with a persistent, delectable finish. At its best: now to 2037.

2021 Vintage Release
“An interesting point to highlight in 2021 was how even the vintage was across our flotilla of vineyards. The fruit quality was high across all the regions we work with. Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Heathcote, and McLaren Vale; one did not shine above another.” – Michael Twelftree
In the wake of some extraordinary scores in the 2024 Halliday Wine CompanionIt’s not just the wines that are celebrated, but the achievement of producing them. They were a labor of love, and showcase a great growing season with the passion and expertise of our team.
I’m happy to see Grenache has finally got some swagger and new – found respect. I’m happy for the brilliant young winemakers who are discovering his charms, and very happy for the consumers that can enjoy his juice. Happy for the smiles he brings and the laughter he creates.”
