Inspired by the myths of ancient Greece the Flagship Series is headed by Ares, the bold, passionate and strong God of War, a perfect name to fit the pinnacle of the Two Hands Collection.
Shiraz is at the heart of the Two Hands story and our vineyard selections give us access to some of the greatest parcels of Shiraz grapes in the country. Each year, every one of the 1,500 barrels of Shiraz is tasted in the search for the very finest cuvée to represent Ares, the pinnacle of our Shiraz production.
The handful of barrels that make it through are matured for 18 months in new and one-year-old French oak, and retasted again to ensure only the best makes the final blend. A statuesque, powerful and deeply flavoured wine that combines elegance and vivacity.

“Deep ruby red in the glass. Blackberry, bitumen, black pepper and cocoa aromas. Dense and powerful on the palate, this sings of Barossa with its ripe blue and purple fruits, ironstone and mocha notes. All that intensity is wrapped up with an all-encompassing net of fine gravelly tannins that ensures tension is held and drives it to a vastly long finish. You could drink it now, but it will highly reward you if you can cellar it for an extended period.”

Ares | Perfect Pairings
Ares is a powerful, full-bodied wine best paired with equally bold foods. Ideal matches include grilled or charred red meats like ribeye steak or lamb chops, slow-braised dishes such as beef cheek, and game meats like venison or duck with berry-based sauces. Rich, aged cheeses like Cheddar, Manchego, or even blue cheese complement its depth, while dishes seasoned with rosemary, black pepper, cloves, or smoked paprika enhance its complexity. For dessert, dark chocolate with high cacao content works well. Avoid light, acidic, or very spicy foods that may clash with the wine’s richness.

Each vintage from 2001 to 2020 is crafted with precision and designed for longevity, making it a true collector’s wine. While our 750ml bottles are released yearly, we also produce a limited number of large format including magnums, jeroboams & imperials.
