Dave’s Block is a very special old vineyard perched on an elevated site in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. The soil is classic white sand over clay, the cooler elevation allows the grapes to slowly mature. The hallmark of this wine is its lifted spicy aromatic profile and the beautifully textured and persistent tannins.
This very special vineyard was created from cuttings off the Kay Brother’s Block Six, a well-known vineyard with 110 year old vines. Previously used as the McLaren Vale component for Ares, Dave’s Block became part of the Single Vineyard Series in 2014 when we decided to bring Ares back to 100% Barossa Valley fruit.

Scores & Reviews
“The 2022 Dave’s Block Blythmans Road Blewitt Springs is in possession of all the silky McLaren Vale fruit: black cherry, raspberry, a little bit of licorice and star anise, red apple skins and some pressed incense. In the mouth, the wine is inky and densely packed with silty tannin. A classy wine here. 14.6% alcohol, sealed under Diam.” – Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate - 96 points
