COACH HOUSE BLOCK

Greenock, Barossa Valley
Single Vineyard Shiraz

The Coach House Block Shiraz comes from an estate-grown single vineyard near the tiny hamlet of Greenock in the Barossa Valley. It is generous and supple whilst soft and approachable upon release. An ultra-rich, heady, mouth-filling Shiraz that combines balanced acidity and mid-palate texture.

The Coach House vineyard was the first estate vineyard purchased by Two Hands back in 2002.  The vineyard was first planted in the early 1990s and now at 30 years of age, the Shiraz vines are really starting to reach maturity. Situated at 256m above sea level, the vines have their roots dug into classic Greenock red-brown earth which is iron rich soil with a high clay content over a base geology of limestone and sandstone.

The wine produced from this site is always rich in fruit showing shades of blackberry with tannins that are regal and firm. Historically this wine was labelled under its own estate bottling called Branson Coach House. In 2006, this became part of the Two Hands portfolio with its very own Single Vineyard wine. Since then Coach House Block has been the backbone of this series.

One block amongst the 18 acres of the vineyard has continually proven to be special. Known internally by our team as Highway Block, this special block has consistently come up as Single Vineyard quality each vintage, during our blind-tasting barrel trials.

Scores & Reviews

Impenetrable core with a deep ruby colour at the rim. Blueberry, wakame and iodine aromas. Dark and deep palate with iodine, ferrous notes and a nori character that all sit over ripe blue fruits. There’s serious intent here, everything sits in harmony with a finely wrought yet powerfully built tannin frame carrying the whole package incredibly long. What really sets this wine apart is the immense power, but it has a sense of lightness that allows you to revel in its delights” – Stuart Knox, The Real Review - 96 points
