LILY'S GARDEN: The pick of the bunch from our McLaren Vale vineyards. Lily’s Garden is a generous wine with cascading blue fruits and a rich long palate. General sand based soils provide lovely lifted aromatics, softness and roundness. The label’s blue colour takes inspiration from McLaren Vale’s close proximity to the sea.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Impenetrable inky red, with crimson hue.

AROMA | A wave of enticing aromas rises from the glass, black and blue fruits, mocha, cardamom, expresso, dried fig, fresh plum, smoke, liquorice and cola.

PALATE | This wine boasts a rich, concentrated fruit character that envelops the palate with deep, dark fruits. Gradually, the acidity reveals itself, highlighting the round, supportive tannins. The mid-palate transition from a luscious coating to a drier
sensation, where a firm, mineral backbone allows the tannins to unfold beautifully on the finish. This wine captures the essence of McLaren Vale, showcasing ripe, full-bodied flavours that evolve into a captivating late palate marked by a harmonious blend of power, structure, and sweet fruit. Many will be drawn to the cascading layers of sweet, rolling fruit, which gracefully transition as the tannins gently reveal themselves. Like much of our 2022 Garden Series, this wine has all the right components for rewarding extended cellaring, ensuring a balanced and promising future.

The Growing Season

After our second La Niña year in a row, the vineyards received an above average winter rainfall, we then progressed into a very mild spring and an equally mild summer with only one day recorded over 40°C. Due to slightly later flowering, the vines were set up to mature at a slower than usual pace, this put the start of vintage back around 3 weeks on average, these mild ripening conditions allowed for slower than usual favour development, this matched with lower yield across the board has resulted in another quality harvest.

Vinification

WINEMAKING | Fermented in a five-ten tonne open top fermenter, with regular pump overs (twice daily over entire ferment) to control ferment, extract colour, flavour and tannins.

Average time ‘on skins’ was 10 days before the fermented juice was drained to tank and the pressings combined. The wine was then racked to barrel, where malolactic fermentation took place.
Lily’s Garden is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

MATURATION | Aged for 16 months in 2-4 year old French oak hogsheads, with up to 20% new French oak.
