The 2016 Lucky Duck Sparkling is a refined expression of the cool-climate Adelaide Hills, sourced from the Quigley vineyard in Piccadilly Valley, crafted in the traditional method from a classic blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

A sophisticated sparkling wine that showcases both precision and generosity, the 2016 Lucky Duck is equally suited to celebration or contemplation. Enjoy it alongside oysters, sushi, or triple-cream cheese.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Pale straw in colour. Persistent mousse with a fine bead.

AROMA | Aromas of green apple, lemon, and white peach are layered with delicate notes of brioche, almond, and a hint of salinity, reflecting its extended lees aging and mineral-driven terroir.

PALATE | The wine is crisp and lively, yet shows a graceful roundness. Bright citrus and orchard fruit flavours are balanced by a refined acidity and a subtle autolytic character. The mousse is creamy yet precise, giving way to a long, clean finish with lingering notes of lemon zest and hazelnut.

The Growing Season

A warm dry spring resulted in excellent fruit set with yields up across all varieties. Our first ever Piccadilly sparkling base was harvested in excellent condition on the 12th of February. The resulting wine looks pure and full of nervous energy. Still Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were harvested roughly 2-3 weeks later with the Chardonnay looking particularly impressive and the Pinot a work in progress. Semillon & Sauvignon Blanc was excellent but the true standout from the Adelaide Hills is the quality of Shiraz harvested from our site in Hope Forrest, we continue to push the boundaries with the amount of whole bunch fermentation. We were fortunate to secure two parcels from this vineyard so quantity should be up in 2016.

Vinification

WINEMAKING | Individually pressed parcels of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, co-fermented and then aged in older oak barrels on lees for six months prior to tirage.

MATURATION |
Matured for 5 years on lees in the bottle. Made in an Extra Brut Style with 6g/l dosage.
