This 2002 Shiraz was the precursor to what would become the Single Vineyard Coach House Shiraz. The very first vintage, made by our original Chief Wine Maker Matt Wenk this single vineyard wine is a limited and rare release.

Tasting Notes

Totally opaque black dark red colour with very deep dark red black hue. The nose exudes liquorice top notes followed by ripe blackberry and some dark chocolate with overtones of vanillin oak and some subtle spice end notes. Full bodied, yet quite civilised for Barossa Shiraz the palate has evolved to be almost elegant with flavours of dark plum and dark chocolate with a vanillin cedar overlay followed by some subtle liquorice, leather and a touch of spicy earth. Velvet smooth soft tannins with medium to long blackberry, chocolate bullets, vanillin cedar and earthy leather aftertast

The Growing Season

The 2002 Barossa Valley Shiraz growing season was a standout, yielding high-quality, elegant wines due to a mild, cool summer and a gentle, slow-ripening autumn. With moderate daytime temperatures, minimal heat spikes, and consistent, mild weather, the vintage produced rich yet balanced reds compared to the hotter, more jammy years preceding it
