Two Hands Charlie’s Garden Shiraz is a quintessential Eden Valley Shiraz, produced from our finest barrels sourced from one of the highest vineyards on top of Menglers Hill. Part of the much-loved Garden Series, Charlie’s Garden captures the elegance, fragrance and mineral detail that make Eden Valley Shiraz so distinctive.

This wine is defined by lift, freshness and fine-boned structure, with fruit grown in skeletal, gravelly soils that create a refined mouthfeel and graceful palate. The elevated vineyard site encourages slow ripening, allowing the fruit to develop a moderately powerful profile while retaining poise, balance and natural acidity.

In the glass, Charlie’s Garden offers a soft bouquet of red fruits, fresh-cut flowers, spice and subtle savoury detail, finishing with an amazing line of minerality. Wildlife and gumtrees surround this vineyard, providing the natural inspiration for the colour of the label and the character of this expressive Shiraz.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Deep ruby with a purple hue.

AROMA | The aromas leap out of the glass, cola, sage, cardamon, violet, eucalyptus, mocha, cherry, blackcurrants, flora.

PALATE | The palate hits with energy, focused and linear, launching into a band of explosive dark fruits that take off. Fresh blackberry notes add brightness, while complex layers of dried violet, pipe smoke, and cracked black peppercorns amplify through to the finish. The fruit is delicious and concentrated,
rebounding across the tongue with a soft reverberating acidity that reveals a minerally edge in the tannins. When they emerge, they penetrate deeply, creating a soft and silky texture. This is a serious bottling that evolves gently while sitting in the glass, showcasing a remarkable depth to the tannins. While this wine will age beautifully under the right conditions in a cellar, it’s already immensely enjoyable upon release.

The Growing Season

After our second La Niña year in a row, the vineyards received an above average winter rainfall, we then progressed into a very mild spring and an equally mild summer with only one day recorded over 40°C. Due to slightly later flowering, the vines were set up to mature at a slower than usual pace, this put the start of vintage back around 3 weeks on average, these mild ripening conditions allowed for slower than usual favour development, this matched with lower yield across the board has resulted in another quality harvest.

Vinification

WINEMAKING | Fermented in a five tonne open top fermenter, with regular pump overs (twice daily over entire ferment) to control ferment, extract colour, flavour and tannins.

Average time ‘on skins’ was 10 days before the fermented juice was drained to tank and the pressings combined. The wine was then racked to barrel, where malolactic fermentation took place.
Charlie’s Garden was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

MATURATION | Aged for 16 months in 2-4 year old French oak hogsheads, with up to 20% new French oak.

"Shiraz sourced from a vineyard on Mengler Hill that shows
deep plum, boysenberry and black cherry fruits infused with baking spice, violet top notes, roasting meats, sage, olive tapenade, dark chocolate and vanillin oak. Full bodied and plushly fruited, tannins ultrafine and powdery and a chocolatey, bright finish with the emphasis on fruit purity and spice."
