My Hands represents the pinnacle of Shiraz at Two Hands. Produced only in the most exceptional vintages, it is drawn from the very finest barrels of our A+ classified Shiraz and released only when the wine is deemed truly extraordinary.

The current release, 2016 My Hands Shiraz, is just the ninth bottling of this ultra-premium wine. Each release is selected by hand during barrel classification, when individual barrels are assessed for depth, structure, purity and longevity. Only those that stand apart for their exceptional quality are chosen to carry the My Hands label.

This is the most premium wine ever produced by Two Hands; a rare expression of Barossa Shiraz crafted for collectors, long-term cellaring and those seeking the very best of what our vineyards and winery can achieve.

The name My Hands is derived from the dialect of the Aboriginal Overland Corner Tribe and translates to Marananga, the home of the Two Hands winery and Cellar Door. In name, origin and intent, this wine is deeply connected to place.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Deep dark black core with red rim to the glass

AROMA | Continually evolving and complex. Deep black berry fruits, vanilla, lifted floral notes and licorice spice with cedar/mint and graphite tones.

PALATE | Like the aromas, the palate is extremely complex and intriguing. Blackberries, chocolate and spice with subtle cedar flavours. The palate is very long and fleshy with balanced graphite notes and fine tannins.

The Growing Season

Vintage 2016 was a standout year for Barossa Shiraz, delivering generous yields and exceptional quality. The season began with a dry winter, before timely rainfall from late July through mid-September replenished soil moisture and set the vines up for strong growth. Warm, dry spring conditions encouraged an even budburst and excellent fruit set, while the growing season remained largely free from significant weather interruptions. Despite the challenges of the Pinery fire and the hottest December on record, with 12 days above 37°C, careful vineyard management ensured vine health and fruit quality remained high. Veraison arrived early in January, followed by a near-perfect ripening period of mild to warm conditions and well-timed rainfall. The first Barossa Shiraz parcels were harvested on 15 February, with vintage progressing steadily before a warm spell accelerated the final stages of picking. Yields across the region were healthy without being excessive, a welcome change after several smaller crops, and quality was exceptional, particularly in the western Barossa. The resulting wines display generosity, depth and structure, with vibrant fruit, strong colour and impressive concentration, making 2016 a truly memorable vintage for Barossa Shiraz.

Vinification

Parcels from the Holy Grail vineyard were crushed and de-stemmed into open top fermenters with regular pump overs, up to three times daily, during peak fermentation to extract colour and tannin, on skins for 23 days. All free run and pressings were combined in tank and then racked to oak after 24 hours to go through malolactic fermentation. The wine was bottled with minimal fining and no filtration.

"A special selection of Shiraz from the Holy Grail vineyard in Seppeltsfield, the 2016 My Hands isan infrequently made, ultra-luxe offering. If you have to ask the price…. After two years in French oakhogsheads (and another couple in bottle prior to release), it’s extravagantly perfumed, loaded withscents of vanilla, cinnamon and cedar, yet placed in near-perfect balance with notes of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. It could be your grandmother’s mixed-berry crumble but with an added savory edge that includes hints of black olives and dark coffee. Full-bodied and plush, yet structured, this is a rich, velvety wine on the palate, yet one that doesn’t sacrifice length or longevity for immediate pleasure—like the juxtaposition of sweet and savory flavors, they’re somehow able to coexist and remain harmonious throughout."
