Two Hands Waterfall Block Shiraz is the newest addition to our Single Vineyard Series, sourced from a unique and compelling site close to the Adelaide CBD. This steep, complex vineyard needs to be seen to be believed, with many short, sharply angled rows shaped by the surrounding slopes and a remarkable natural microclimate.

Protected from early morning light by the highest point of the Mount Lofty Ranges behind it, and shielded again from the searing late-day sun by a steep hillside to the north, Waterfall Block allows its low-yielding vines to ripen slowly and evenly. The moving canopy and minimal vine stress help produce Shiraz with freshness, detail and striking regional character.

In the glass, Waterfall Block Shiraz offers lifted aromatics, dark and red fruits, spice, savoury complexity and fine structure. The label features Morialta’s First Falls, located only a short distance from the vineyard, reflecting the dramatic landscape behind this distinctive Single Vineyard release.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Purple with deep black core.

AROMA | Strawberry, potpourri, raspberry, lavender, nutmeg, dark cherries, rose petal and blood plum lift from the glass.

PALATE | This wine is beautifully balanced, with a silky texture that isn’t overly concentrated or heavy. The fruit flavours are delicate and flow along a fine, with a creamy line of tannins. It feels refined, elegant, and has a distinct soft touch in its expression. The tannins make their presence known only in the final moments, always lingering quietly in the background. The finish offers a delightful, drying sensation, leaving behind the rich flavours of dark, dense red fruit. This wine is a true reflection of its unique microclimate—three acres of vines nestled on the steep slopes of Burnside, just eight kilometres from Adelaide’s CBD.

The Growing Season

After our second La Niña year in a row, the vineyards received an above average winter rainfall, we then progressed into a very mild spring and an equally mild summer with only one day recorded over 40°C. Due to slightly later flowering, the vines were set up to mature at a slower than usual pace, this put the start of vintage back around 3 weeks on average, these mild ripening conditions allowed for slower than usual favour development, this matched with lower yield across the board has resulted in another quality harvest.

Vinification

WINEMAKING | The small parcel from this unique single block was picked and crushed on the 25th of March. De-stemmed into a stainless steel fermenter. The time spent on skins was 12 days. All free run and pressings were combined. Then moved to barrel, where malolactic fermentation occurred. The wine was bottled with minimum fining and no filtration.

MATURATION | 18 months in up to 50% new French oak and 2/3 year old hogsheads. Bottled in November the following vintage.

"The 2022 Waterfall Block Waterfall Gully Road Burnside Shiraz is floral and aromatic, with strawberries and cranberry, pomegranate andgarden roses. In the mouth, the wine is shaped by a profusion of tannin, but it retains some levity in its prettiness. A lovely wine, groundedand fresh. The tannins are pliable and ductile, plentiful but chewy. So far, I am preferring the 2022s to the bigger, more robust 2021s."
