COLOUR | Powerful and rich, black on black core colour.

AROMA | Classic McLaren Vale bouquet greets you but it has extra dimension. Coffee grind, fresh plum, mocha, peppermint, roasted meats, sassafras and fire smoke.

PALATE | The palate is typically sweet and coating, this powers along very nicely before the tannins take over. I really like the interplay here, the wine is more on texture and drive style than the overt and caressing sweet style typified by so many wines from McLaren Vale.

The 2021 vintage was exceptional, with near-perfect weather and growing conditions across all regions. Early winter rains, a mild summer, and well-timed February showers supported even ripening and ideal harvest timing. Vine growth was strong, with balanced crop loads and smaller berries offering intense flavor at lower alcohol levels. Quality was consistent across vineyards, notably at Holy Grail and Branson Coach House. A standout Shiraz block from 1891 Wendouree vines inspired a special bottling, Cleo’s Block. The resulting wines are harmonious, balanced, and full of energy—marking 2021 as a truly outstanding and memorable vintage.

WINEMAKING | Machine picked fruit, de-stemmed, cold soaked, slow fermentation, pumped down, 9 days on skins, light pressings.

MATURATION | 300 litre French oak for 12 months.
