Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Deep blood red, almost black at the core.

AROMA | A bouquet that is almost crammed with enticing aromas, displaying an amalgam of complex smells. Blackberry nip, kirsch, cola, mocha and vanilla.

PALATE | A solid wine with that heralds typical Barossa-like dense fruit with balanced but opulent mouth coating tannins. There is plenty of depth and mid- palate richness to see this wine live in optimal cellaring conditions for 20+years. Partner with full flavoured foods or hard cheeses.

The Growing Season

Many vineyards in the valley saw heavy fruit set and high yields, but Two Hands' vineyards mostly maintained a good crop-to-canopy balance, requiring minimal thinning. A mild January encouraged strong colour and flavour development, though a mid-February heatwave challenged later-picked reds. Those who waited benefited from an Indian summer, producing Shiraz with vibrant colour and elegant spice, along with excellent Cabernet. Harvest ran from mid-March to mid-April.

Vinification

WINEMAKING | The grapes were crushed into and fermented in open top potters, with regular pump overs twice daily to extract colour  and tannin. The grapes were then pressed and the wine was transferred to tank and then racked to barrel for oak maturation.

MATURATION | 20 months in 30% new American oak hogsheads the balance in 1 and 2 year old oak.
