Two Hands Aerope Grenache is part of our Flagship Series, a collection inspired by the myths and legends of ancient Greece. While Ares Shiraz leads the range, Aerope, a mortal princess and lover of Ares, represents the very best Grenache parcels selected and crafted each vintage.

This is a deeply expressive and concentrated Australian Grenache, showing the elegance, fragrance and power the variety can achieve when handled with care. The palate is rich and layered, with dark fruits, red berries, earth, spice and savoury detail flowing with impressive energy and length.

Aerope carries a beautiful sense of movement, beginning with a burst of fruit before building into another gear and continuing with poise. It is generous yet controlled, powerful yet gentle, holding its line with remarkable balance. A refined and compelling Grenache, Aerope showcases the quality, detail and ambition behind the Two Hands Flagship Series and our finest Grenache expressions.

Tasting Notes

Colour | Radiant crimson to deep ruby at the core.

Aroma | The bouquet opens with vibrant red liquorice and wild cherry, layered with delicate floral notes, rose petal. Floating above a grounding core of earth, dried herbs, and warm stone.

Palate | The palate is composed and elegant, opening with juicy red fruits that give way to savoury complexities. A line of wet stone minerality runs beneath, lending a taut precision. Rich dry spice and freshly grated nutmeg unfold through the mid-palate, adding warmth and dimension. The mouthfeel is smooth and supple, with silky tannins guiding the wine to a long, persistent finish. There's a quiet intensity here, and enjoyable in it's youth, but promising graceful development over time. This is a wine built for the cellar, where its aromatic detail and mineral structure will evolve beautifully with age.

The Growing Season

The 2021 Barossa Valley growing season was exceptional, with nature delivering balance at every stage. Generous rain from August through October replenished soil moisture, while mild, even conditions in November and December supported strong shoot growth and trouble-free flowering. Summer remained remarkably moderate, with only one day above 40°C. A perfectly timed rain in late February refreshed the vines and sustained a long, unhurried ripening period. Shiraz berries remained small to moderate, building concentrated flavour while retaining freshness, acidity and fine tannin. Harvest progressed steadily through March and into April, producing beautifully balanced, expressive fruit.

Vinification

Winemaking | A small parcel from our Holy Grail vineyard that was crushed and de-stemmed into a stainless steel open top tanks, Fermented on skins for 14 days and pressed once dry. The wine was bottled with minimum fining and no filtration.

Maturation | 12 months in 5 year old French oak puncheons. 3 barrels produced, bottled in late 2023.

"The 2021 Aerope Grenache is red-fruited on the nose, with an abundance of dried rose petals, kicked red earth and exotic spices (star anise, clove, cinnamon, etc). The tannins show real presence on the palate, though finely wrought and seamlessly integrated into the fruit. The palate shows impressive balance, making for overwhelmingly attractive drinking. This is a beautiful wine. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam. The bottle/glass for the Aerope, Aphrodite and Ares cuvées are incredibly heavy—some of the heaviest glassware I am sent each year from across both Australia and New Zealand." Drink Date:2026 - 2036
