Two Hands Ziggy’s Block Cabernet Sauvignon is a rare Barossa Cabernet, produced only in the 2021 vintage and the first non-Shiraz wine added to the Single Vineyard Series lineup since 2014. Named after MT’s Dachshund and best mate, Ziggy, this wine brings a personal touch to a distinctive regional expression.

Sourced from a grower’s vineyard in the western Barossa village of Greenock, Ziggy’s Block was suggested to us by good friends and neighbours Paulmara, who believed the site showed genuine Single Vineyard potential. The fruit delivers the structure, depth and savoury character that make Barossa Cabernet so compelling, while carrying the individuality of a single, carefully chosen block.

In the glass, Ziggy’s Block offers dark berries, cassis, spice, leafy detail and fine tannin, with richness balanced by shape and restraint. A one-vintage release, this Cabernet is a special chapter in the Two Hands Single Vineyard story.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Deep garnet red.

AROMA | Violets, rose hip, and a delicate touch of mint, mingling with the cool freshness of eucalyptus. Rich layers of cassis and sultry dark fruit. Subtle notes of leather and vanilla bean.

PALATE | The palate is rich, powerful, and deeply expressive, delivering an alluring concentration of fruit with impressive depth. It opens with lush notes of ripe blackcurrant, dark plum. Unfolding into layers of vanilla and very subtle pepper. The tannins are fine, smooth, and glossy, offering a refined structure that adds texture and poise. A hint of dried leather and earthiness evokes a classic, old-world charm, while the vibrant fruit intensity reflects its modern Barossa origins. The wine carries remarkable length, with its elements in seamless harmony - a Cabernet that is both bold and contemplative. Smooth and approachable now, but built to age beautifully if you’ve got the patience for it to evolve gracefully with time in your cellar.

The Growing Season

2021 is an extremely talented vintage, one that we will be talking about for many years to come. This form has now been franked having followed each individual bottle through maturation in our cellars and into bottle. The wines are very well balanced and have a soft and endless energy. All components of the wine work so brilliantly and synergistically together that you wonder if we will ever be able to repeat the process with mother nature on our side.

Vinification

WINEMAKING | One small parcel from this single block was picked, crushed and de-stemmed into a single 5-tonne open top fermenter. The time spent on skins was 10 days with 2-3 pump overs daily. All free run and pressings were combined in tank and after 24 hours the wine was then racked off gross lees to barrel, where malolactic fermentation occurred. The wine was bottled with minimum fining and no filtration.

MATURATION | 18 months in up to 50% new French oak and 2/3 year old hogsheads. 3 barrels bottled in November the following vintage.
