Inspired by the myths of ancient Greece the Flagship Series is headed by our Ares Shiraz. Aphrodite was the true love of Ares, and their love story is one of the greatest of all time.

With a strong commitment to the philosophy of ‘quality without compromise’, Two Hands Wines use a strict classification process to ensure that only the best barrels each vintage are deemed worthy of being bottled as a Flagship Series wine.

Six months after vintage, a selection of barrels from our best parcels of fruit are carefully assessed by Chief Winemaker Richard Langford, looking for the finest cuvee and given a classification grade associated with its place in the Two Hands portfolio. With this focus on detail, it means only the best barrels make it through and quality is maintained even in the toughest vintages, albeit at lower quantities.

Each year, only a handful of barrels come in at the top of the class, scoring an A+. These barrels go on to become wines in our Flagship Series, representing the very finest varietal selections from each vintage.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR | Deep magenta to black in colour.

AROMA | Straight out of the gate the bouquet screams Cabernet, with notes of camphor, aniseed, love, violets, moss, smoke, warm bark and fresh
blackcurrants.

PALATE | The fruit coats your palate on entry, this as a lovely softness to its mouthfeel as pure, juicy fruits roll along the palate.

This is smooth and driven. Through the late palate the tannins change and become more savoury and stony, the tannins take over and leave you with a very clean and driving finish. Overall, this is delicious and is a little bit too easy to drink, no hard edges and a strong core of fruit is the order of the day.

The Growing Season

The 2020 vintage faced severe drought, with the Barossa Valley experiencing its driest winter since 1912. Despite low yields, innovative water-saving measures, including Sap Flow monitoring, helped manage resources. A hot January was followed by ideal ripening conditions in February and March. Picking was challenging due to variability across vineyards, requiring close monitoring. The Holy Grail vineyard delivered 132 tonnes of high-quality fruit, and improvements in winemaking processes under new Chief Winemaker Richard Langford led to excellent juice quality. Though yields were down over 50%, 2020 is remembered as one of the best vintages in terms of wine quality.
