INSTINCTIVELY CURIOUS – July News 2023

Welcome to the July edition of Instinctively Curious, the Two Hands Wines newsletter.

Two Hands Wines Newsletter

As I write this, the winery is quiet for the first time in several months. Without the steady whir of the forklift and moving of barrels in the background it is a chance to reflect on the vintage season that was and look forward to the wines that will come out of it.

I have been fortunate enough to try the first 2023 wine, The Boy Riesling, and it looks great. Can’t wait for everyone to get a chance to try this wonderful Eden Valley Riesling for themselves later in the year when it is released. For those who are Discovery Dozen Wine Club members, you might just get a sneak peak of this wine sooner than everyone else.

We have recently said a fond farewell to our final two international vintage staff, Melina and Andrea. Their warm smiles and hard work will be missed by us all and we wish them all the best as they continue their working travel in Australia.

I hope you enjoy the July edition of our newsletter and we look forward to welcoming you in the cellar door soon. The fire is going and the wines are waiting for you.

WINTER
HOLY GRAIL VINEYARD
PRUNING

Winter is a busy time in our vineyards as it is the time of year where the hard work of our Viticulture Manager Peter and his team sets up the next growing season. The main purpose of pruning is to maintain the vines shape and structure and allows us to control how much fruit is produced in the following season. Vine health and biosecurity are two very important aspects of managing our vineyards. We are fortunate to have some of the world’s oldest vines in the Barossa and it is our duty as their custodians to look after them.

To help keep these precious vines safe from pests and diseases it is very important to not enter vineyards without permission. If you are participating in one of our Vineyard Experiences we will supply you with boots and a chlorine bath to disinfect them of any potential risks to the vines.

If you have a trip booked to the Barossa this Winter, you’ll see teams of people walking through vineyards all around the Valley in rain, hail or shine, pruning all the vines. They have until Spring, and the clock is always ticking!

WINE OF THE MONTH
ANGELS’ SHARE
McLAREN VALE SHRIAZ

This month we feature a favourite of many, from our Picture Series the 2022 Angel’s Share Shiraz.

ANGELS’ SHARE, A GORGEOUS SILKY RICH SHIRAZ. APPEALING TO ANGELS AND MORTALS ALIKE SINCE THE 2000 VINTAGE.

“2022 Angel’s Share flows from the bottle with colours of magenta to black. Interesting aromas of dried herbs, fresh mint, clove, coffee, chocolate and sauteed plums. This is a wine that will offer loads of immediate pleasure and will also age for the moderate term under optimal cellaring conditions.” – MT

ADELAIDE PRIVATE DINNER
GEORGES ON WAYMOUTH

We have a few seats still available for our upcoming Adelaide dinner on August 18th at Georges on Waymouth. Please follow the link below for tickets and we look forward to spending a great evening with our Adelaide friends.

Spencer was born in Adelaide where his parents own a print company, explaining the keen eye he has when it comes to our labels and production. He has previously worked in dental in the Barossa for about 6 years and got the ‘call of the vine’ becoming wine obsessed. From here he started a small family winery in Houghton Adelaide Hills with an uncle & took a vintage winemaker role with Two Hands for vintage 2022 before changing to Production Manager.
